1. Getting Here & Getting Around

All Roads Lead to Adventure.

Navigating the gateway to Southern Luzon is easier than you think. Sorsogon is highly accessible by air, land, and sea.

  • By Air: Most travellers arrive via Bicol International Airport (BIA) in Daraga. From there, it is a scenic 1.5 to 2-hour drive to Sorsogon City.
  • By Land: Direct air-conditioned buses run daily from Manila (Pasay/Cubao) to Sorsogon City, Gubat, and Bulan. It’s a 12-hour overnight haul – perfect for waking up to the Mayon Volcano view.
  • By Sea: Matnog and Pilar are the primary nautical highways connecting Luzon to Visayas and Masbate.
  • Local Transport: Once here, the iconic Jeepney or Modern Jeepneys connect major towns, while Tricycles are the kings of short-distance travel. For total flexibility, we recommend private van hire for cross-municipality tours.

2. When to Visit

  • Whale Shark Season (Donsol): Best from December to May, with peak sightings between February and April.
  • Surfing Season (Gubat): The “Habagat” and “Amihan” swells provide great waves from October to March.
  • Festival Season: Don’t miss the Kasanggayahan Festival in October, a province-wide celebration of Sorsogon’s founding and culture.

3. Travel Tips for the Wise Explorer

  • Connectivity: 4G/5G is strong in Sorsogon City and town centers, but expect “digital detox” zones in the mountains of Bulusan or the islands of Matnog.
  • Banking: ATMs are widely available in Sorsogon City, Bulan, and Irosin. However, we strongly advise carrying enough Cash (Philippine Pesos) when heading to coastal resorts or island hopping.
  • Eco-Ethics: Sorsogon prides itself on conservation. Always follow “Leave No Trace” principles, especially in our protected marine sanctuaries and natural parks.
